The Call

Matthew 9: 9 As Jesus went on from there, He saw a man called Matthew, sitting in the tax collector’s booth; and He *said to him, “Follow Me!” And he got up and followed Him.

Thank you Trenton for your words this past Sunday.

My father-in-law, several months ago, was not feeling well and, through a series of tests and observations, was diagnosed with cancer. Once discovered and the specific type of cancer infecting his body identified, a plan of action to “fight back” was implemented. Knowledge is power and as with any fight, knowing the opposition, understanding it’s characteristics, and an inventory of our assets is the foundation for a great defense.  Dean has an opportunity to “fight back”, because someone took the time to discover, observe, explain, and then provide a defensive plan of action.

Trenton your message on “the call”, was a great charge to the “Commission” that Jesus gave to every Christian (Matthew 28:18-20).  “Make disciples of all nations…” In fact it was nearly His last words spoken on earth. Yet the state of our world, our city, and even our neighborhoods bare witness to our neglect and failure to carry forth this critical commandment.

We see the effect of sin in our world, we daily talk about “Them”, how that many of “Them” are affecting our nation, ruining our society, stealing from our neighbors, and defaulting in their business relationships. We see the affect of “Them” every day. We complain, BUT most of us do nothing to help “Them”. Matthew 9: 36

Most Christians know the problem, understand the solution, and have the ability to deliver and explain, BUT we do not. (Matthew 9:37). Trenton’s message highlighted the fact that every Christian has a “good news” message because God is alive and working within each one of us daily. That our “story” is unique, personal, believable, one we can share at any given opportunity, all it takes is our willingness. (Matthew 9:38)

Let’s take the time to acknowledge what God has done in our lives. Look for opportunities to help others, and then share our story. Trust that God will provide the words and the message to give, and be willing to used by God. To me, this is the essence of God’s action plan.

Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Trenton, your message, that while a witnessing “program” is great, a willing heart is greater. Thank you, for reminding us a to be an Agent for Change to a lost world.
